The lid of the laptop can be customized upon purchase with a range of colours and, depending on the store it is purchased, patterns. The keyboard has the usual keys featured on a 15 inch laptop, with the added benefits of having a numeric pad on the far right which helps for inputting numbers quickly if needed. In my opinion though, the best feature by far on the laptop are the touch-buttons above the keyboard, which control volume, multimedia and disc ejecting, when the buttons are touched they light up which is great in the dark as it allows you to see what you are pressing.
Dell Studio 1735 out of the box we experienced a déjà vu which was expected because the only differences in design from 1535 model are bigger dimensions and presence of numerical keypad. Surprisingly, besides bigger dimensions keyboard is noticeably firmer then on 1535 model. Area around Enter key and numeric pad bends under pressure but hardly noticeable and not in amount that would disturb anyone. Since keyboard was our main complaint on smaller model this change was right on target. Touch Pad is precise which can be said also for almost noiseless keys below it. Our model had blue cover but there are available models with different colors and textures. Recently this became standard for Dell notebooks even for pricier business models.
This is an awesome laptop! It's super powerful and fast! The laptop has inputs for just about anything. It has several USB ports, and HDMI port, an SD card reader, and several others. The touchscreen volume buttons and media controls are a little touchy at times, but look very sleek! My favorite media feature is definitely the wireless remote control. This Studio 1735 battery allows me to use my HDMI port to hook my laptop up to my television and sit back on the couch and control my movie or navigate through pictures. Another great feature is the numeric pad. I pay my bills online and hate that most laptops do not have this, so you are forced to use the numbers over the keyboard. This laptop also comes in a variety of colors which makes it a bit more fun! The only drawback is that it's large size makes it a bit harder to transport, and it doesnt fit into most laptop bags. All in all I love my computer! I can create cd's and dvd's quickly, manage my life, and enjoy my free time all with one machine. I'd be lost without it! I would definitely recommend it for anyone from students to professionals.

While the lack of a Blu-ray drive is a disappointment, buyers who wish to include a Blu-Ray player can do so for a higher price. Dell has bundled a digital TV tuner card that fits into the ExpressCard/54 slot to allow HDTV viewing. This worked fine in our tests and we were able to use Windows Vista Media Centre to watch TV.
When it comes to usability, the Dell Studio 17 battery is a winner thanks to a full-sized keyboard with a number pad, as well as keyboard backlighting that makes working in low-light situations easier.
